Hope for Florida’s Future

HOPE for a better, brighter Florida arrived with dawn yesterday in South Miami, and I saw it with my own eyes. If you, like me, have been deeply disappointed in Florida’s governor for far too long, whether the eight dark years during which Rick Scott ruled or, more recently, the even more ominous (and expensive) eight years Ron DeSantis has subjected our state to, then I invite you to please meet David Jolly and my long-time friend Gwen Graham, the newly elected Democratic candidates for Florida Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
At a moment when it can sometimes (ok, oftentimes) feel difficult to be optimistic about the direction of our state, spending time with people who believe Florida can, should, and WILL do better makes me feel hopeful about what our future can become.
I am talking about authentic people committed to solving Florida’s economic crisis and making life more affordable for all of us. People who see a Florida for everyone and believe that our diversity is a strength. People who sincerely believe that Florida’s educational system should be the very best in the world (period). And, yes, people who believe that protecting our environment is fundamental to a robust Florida economy and the high-quality life every Floridian deserves.
Those are some of the ideals that David and Gwen spoke about early yesterday morning here in South Miami as they brought hope for brighter days back to Florida. By working together and embracing new people with fresh ideas, we can bring the sunshine, prosperity, and, yes, HOPE back to our state.

I hope you’re having a fantastic summer! I’m on sabbatical from my regular blog posting schedule while I finish my Ph.D. dissertation but like today, plan to “drop in” from time to time here at Delaney’s Blog. To learn more about my sabbatical or Ph.D., please click here.
